Responsibility Counts

“I didn’t hear the instructions.”

“I never heard what time we were supposed to be here.”

“It wasn’t my fault!”

Making an excuse is the easy way out.  The reality is that no one cares about your excuse.  They would rather you apologize and take responsibility for your actions!  No matter what age you are, you should always be responsible. Being “young” is also not an excuse!  You want your teachers, your coaches, and your mentors to trust you, no matter what age you are.

How do we take responsibility?  Be aware of what the expectations are.  If you are supposed to be at practice by 5 o’clock, be early!  If you are supposed to wear a certain uniform, check to make sure you have the correct attire.  If something goes wrong, and you were involved, hold yourself accountable and make sure it doesn’t happen again.

Responsibility is important in every facet of our lives.  When you join a team, you signed up to be a part of something bigger than yourself.  You ASKED to be held responsible. If you want to keep a spot on that team, you have to hold up your end of the deal!  Coaches take responsibility for their tasks, and the participants must do the same.

So, next time you are tempted to use an excuse, stop yourself.  Excuses are just empty words. Be responsible, be trustworthy, and hold yourself accountable.  This applies to teams, extracurricular activities, work, and school! Remember... you signed up for this!

Keep counting it out, Ladies…

5, 6, 7, 8!
