How to Minimize Competition Nerves

We all know the feeling of being nervous right before stepping into a competition!

"What if I mess up?!  I just want to give it 110% and be there for my teammates!"

What if I told you there is a way to minimize your nerves right before you step on the floor or mat?

BREATHE.  Take three long, deep breaths right before you perform.  Breathe slowly, making sure you are focusing on your inhale and your exhale.  This is proven to reduce your stress and it is guaranteed to calm your nerves.

VISUALIZE.  Picture you and your team delivering the best performance of your lives!  Picture all of your teammates giving it their all and working together flawlessly.  Visualization sounds like it's "pretend" but it works.  It will help you stay positive and focus on your goal.

SUPPORT.  Support yourself and support your team.  Whether you are a part of a team or you are a soloist, it is so important to be positive and have a good attitude throughout the entire process.  Show yourself and your teammates some love!  It could be as small as a pep talk in the mirror or a hug right before your performance.  The little things make the biggest difference.

In this season of competition, it is important to remember a few things.

1) Only worry about what you can control.

2) Always give it 110%, and you'll never have regret.

3) Sometimes it's more about the journey than it is about the end result.  Winning is important, but the ultimate goal is to work hard.

Keep counting it out...

5, 6, 7, 8!
